Over 100 for a single species in the moth trap

Another good night in the trap, with a total of 221 moths trapped a whopping half of these (109) were Large Yellow Underwing.

With all the moths caught a total of 33 species were in the trap with 25 Macro and 8 Micro I had only 1 new species.

Whimbrel over Norwich and Friday Night Mothing

I was playing pitch and put at Mousehold yesterday when a Whimbrel flew over headed towards the City.

Friday night I ran the moth trap a brilliant night with 265 moths trapped. This was with 49 species of which 34 were Macro and 15 were Micro. 2 Brand new species and one new for the garden. The most impressive moth had to be the Large Yellow Underwing with 96 of them in the trap, they were crammed in everywhere.

Red-backed Shrike and Citrine Wagtail

The above were two birds I was hoping to see/find but didn't.

The first was the Red-backed Shrike seen near the Pleasure Beach Car park on Wednesday, spent 40mins or so looking for it but all I could muster was 9 Wheatears below is one of them.

 

I had a small amount of time between meetings on Thursday so popped to Kelling Water Meadows. I like strolling down the track and looking at the scrape at the end. I was hoping to find (re-locate) the Citrine Wagtail that had been at Weyborne the previous day. Plenty of juv Wagtails to sift through but I couldn't make any of them a Citrine. Did see a Spotted Flycatcher on the walk back which was nice. Also saw a large flock of Goldfinch (one below).

 

 

I also ran the moth trap on the night of the 28th, Caught 31 species, 24 Macro and 7 Micro added two new species detailed below and caught a total of 167 moths.

Italian? Sparrow and you guessed it ...more moths

Went to see the smart looking Sparrow hybrid (even if it is Italian isn't that just a hybrid anyway?)

Patch Migrants and Moth list reaches it 200th

What a fantastic weekend reading the pager, I was to busy to head anywhere to far (as no lifers found) but all these birds must mean something good on the patch?

I have neglected the patch recently using it to jog on rather than looking for birds. Yesterday I had a small window of opportunity between collect the moth trap from my dads (will give full list below) and getting ready for a BBQ in the afternoon with the in-laws. 

I still went for a jog but took a different route with my Bins, on route the best bird seen, a Wryneck it was in a hedgerow/field which I spooked with the car as I drove along. 

Other highlights were Pied Fly, Whinchat and Redstart all around Trimingham.

But earlier than this I had ran the Moth trap at Dads and had quiet a haul of moths.

172 Moths caught with 41 species in total of which 30 were Macro and 11 Micro, I had 5 new moths in total. Full details with pictures of the best (well the new ones) below.

Moth list up to 199 - I wonder what 200 will be?

That is a combined list of 140 Macro and 59 Micro after last nights (20/08) trapping, as always the results are below.

As for the 200th will it be on the next trapping? I seem to get a new moth every time I run it. There must be a point where your garden stops giving you regular new moths but what would that total be, the garden list is only 14 behind (126 Marco 59 Micro) when will that reach 200?

The irony is that I may already be on 200 as I have past photographs of moths that I have yet to id.
